Early Pregnancy Constipation

Pregnancy is the time of hormone changes in a woman’s body. Constipation in early trimester is very common. It should not be treated lightly. Straining while trying to pass bowel may result in piles or hemorrhoids.

There are many factors which contribute to early pregnancy constipation. Hormone like progesterone is produced ten times higher than its production before conception. This hormone relaxes the muscles including the intestinal walls which results in more absorption of vitamins minerals and water from the food being consumed resulting in hard and dry stools.

Food is a contributing factor too for constipation in early trimester. Iron which is given to pregnant women via prenatal vitamins has side effect as constipation. As iron is vital for pregnant women it is necessary to get in touch with doctor about iron dosage, if it is the cause of constipation. Drinking more fluids and fiber is a must in the situation of early pregnancy constipation. Those who suffer from constipation in early trimester must take into account that as pregnancy progresses pressure on intestinal tracts increase leading to increase in frequency and severity of constipation. Some doctors even recommend laxatives, if problem of constipation is severe.

Only thing women can do to decrease the problem of constipation is to consume as many fluids and fibers as possible for them.
